Salam Lawal is a Nigerian technology founder, frontend developer and technical SEO specialist best known for founding Imaiger, an artificial-intelligence platform for producing and optimizing visual content. His work spans web application development, search-engine optimization, digital marketing and software automation, with a particular focus on tools for creators, marketers and small businesses.[1][2][3]

Salam entered technology through a combination of teaching, digital marketing and self-directed software training. He later built products including Imaiger and Daily Followers, contributed to commercial web and e-learning projects, and mentored aspiring developers in Nigeria. Imaiger received the Best AI-Powered Visual Content Platform title in the 2025 SME News Midlands Enterprise Awards.[1][2][3]

His approach to technology emphasizes the use of AI as an instrument for extending human capabilities rather than replacing human judgment. Alongside product development, Salam has advocated stronger support for Nigerian-built software, access to startup capital, practical technology education and closer links between African developers and international opportunities.[2]

Early life and education

Salam Lawal was born in Nigeria on May 17, 1992. He is Nigerian.

His route through higher education was not linear. He initially began studying agriculture but changed direction following challenges with that course of study, eventually earning a university degree in Resource Management. His official professional profile identifies Obafemi Awolowo University as his university. While still a student, he developed an interest in coding, although he found it difficult to pursue consistently alongside his academic responsibilities.[2]

By the time Salam completed university, he had concluded that technology rather than Resource Management would form the basis of his career. During his National Youth Service Corps posting, he taught computer science to children. The experience strengthened his interest in computing and helped establish a practical connection between technical knowledge, education and problem-solving.[2]

Salam later obtained a BCS Level 4 Certificate in IT, issued in January 2020, and completed Hugging Face’s AI Agents Fundamentals certification in February 2025. His technical education nevertheless remained substantially self-directed. Rather than entering the industry through a conventional computer-science degree, he built his knowledge by studying online material and repeatedly developing projects.

Entry into technology

After teaching computer science, Salam moved into digital marketing. That work exposed him to the commercial side of websites, audience growth and online products, but it also convinced him that he needed stronger engineering skills to create substantial products independently. He began teaching himself to program through YouTube videos and project-based practice.[2]

His early studies covered HTML, CSS, JavaScript and Node.js. He subsequently specialized in frontend development using JavaScript, TypeScript, React and Next.js. He also developed expertise in technical SEO and web-experience optimization. This combination of engineering, marketing and search knowledge became characteristic of his later work: his products were conceived not simply as technical demonstrations but as tools intended to attract users, improve workflows and support measurable online growth.[1][2]

Salam has described the process of building repeated projects as essential to making his programming knowledge durable. It also shaped his broader view that technology careers are developed through execution and continuous learning. He has advised aspiring founders to launch products, obtain feedback and improve them rather than waiting for ideal circumstances.[2][3]

Web development and early products

Before and alongside Imaiger, Salam assembled a portfolio of independent web projects. Daily Followers was developed as a TikTok-focused social-media management and profile-analysis application. It provides creators with information about their audiences, engagement and content performance. Salam has presented the product as one example of using software to make creator workflows more efficient and inclusive, particularly for users who lack access to large marketing teams.[1][2]

Daily Followers later described itself as an AI-assisted analysis service used by more than 10,000 people and reported having analyzed more than 10 million followers. Its public interface allows a user to analyze a TikTok profile without supplying the profile password.

Other projects listed in Salam’s portfolio include WetterMaik, an experimental world weather map made for German-speaking users; Dranft, a WordPress website in the artificial-intelligence industry; and Makeovers By Mide, a WordPress project for the beauty industry.[1]

His broader professional record includes work with the international digital advertising company OGAds. After moving to the United Kingdom, he also contributed through British companies to e-learning platforms built for major organizations including Colgate and DHL.[2]

These projects gave Salam experience across consumer web applications, content platforms, marketing technology, WordPress development and corporate learning systems. They also provided the practical background from which he began building a larger AI-focused company.

Founding Imaiger

Salam founded Imaiger following the release of Stable Diffusion in August 2022. He observed that image-generation systems were allowing large numbers of people to produce AI imagery, but that users lacked a straightforward way to search and discover the resulting work. His initial response was to build Imaiger as a central database for AI-generated images.[2]

The product subsequently evolved from an image-discovery database into a visual-content platform serving creators, founders, marketers and brands. Salam framed the problem in terms of access: professional visual production had traditionally required design expertise, costly software or the ability to hire specialists. Those requirements placed independent creators and small businesses, especially in emerging markets, at a disadvantage. Imaiger was designed to lower that barrier by making AI-assisted content creation easier and less expensive.[2][3]

The platform’s product scope continued to develop. It offered tools for finding slideshow formats performing well within particular subject areas, generating hooks and overlay text, creating branded images, reconstructing editable slideshows from existing links and testing variations to compare performance. Its supported use cases included content for YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and other digital channels.[1]

Salam’s frontend specialization influenced the construction of Imaiger. He has identified JavaScript, TypeScript, React and Next.js as core technologies in his work, and his portfolio describes Imaiger as having been built with Next.js.[1][2]

Imaiger was accepted into Microsoft for Startups Founders Hub and Paddle AI Launchpad. These programs provided the company with access to startup and product-development ecosystems while it worked to establish itself within the creator economy.[2][3]

In 2025, SME News named Imaiger the Best AI-Powered Visual Content Platform in its Midlands Enterprise Awards. The award recognized the platform’s use of AI to help creators and brands produce images, thumbnails and slideshows intended to improve audience growth and engagement.[1][2][3]

Salam described the award as validation of the effort to make visual-content creation accessible to independent creators and small businesses. He also viewed it as a means of strengthening Imaiger’s credibility as it sought partnerships and a larger position in the creator-technology market.[3]

In 2026, Imaiger announced its acceptance into the OpenAI Partner Network, giving it access to partner training, enablement resources, communications and collaboration opportunities.

Technology philosophy

Salam has rejected the idea that AI should be understood as more intelligent than people in a general human sense. In his view, humans remain the actual problem-solvers, while AI helps them work with greater speed and scale. Because AI systems learn from human-created information and lack independent human context, judgment and values, he regards them as tools rather than replacements for human thought.[2]

Within Imaiger, this philosophy translates into using automation to remove repetitive work while preserving human responsibility for creativity, product choices and ethical decisions. Salam has compared AI with the tools available to innovators in earlier periods: the tools change, but people continue to define problems and decide how technology should be applied.[2]

He has acknowledged concerns about employment, mental well-being and overreliance on technology, but argues that the opportunities created by new technical systems outweigh the risks when they are used with balance and care. His work focuses particularly on augmentation—making creative production faster and more accessible—rather than attempting to eliminate the creator’s role.[2]

Nigerian technology ecosystem

Salam has expressed concern that Nigeria remains a major consumer of foreign software despite its large pool of technical talent. He attributes part of this imbalance to insufficient awareness, investment and institutional support for locally developed products. He has argued that government bodies and major industry participants should actively promote Nigerian software and make domestic solutions a preferred option for domestic problems.[2]

His recommendations include expanding access to capital for founders and organizing workshops and hackathons that bring developers together to collaborate. He has emphasized that a sustainable technology sector requires both financing and communities in which builders can exchange knowledge, test ideas and form teams.[2]

Salam has identified the gap between Nigerian technical talent and global employment as one problem he would like to address. His proposed response is a platform connecting Nigerian developers with international companies, allowing developers to participate in the global economy while earning foreign currency. He has also proposed a structured AI-learning platform through which Nigerians could explore different areas of artificial intelligence and follow defined educational roadmaps.[2]

His advice to Nigerian founders is to think internationally from the beginning while continuing to solve concrete problems. He has urged entrepreneurs to document user numbers, revenue, testimonials and other outcomes because measurable evidence of execution is more persuasive than promises. He has also described insufficient networking as an early mistake in his own career. While concentrating on building products, he initially devoted too little attention to relationships within the technology ecosystem. He has since encouraged founders to attend events, participate in communities and deliberately connect with people whose work they respect.[2][3]

Mentorship

In 2025, Salam joined the Skill-Up Tech Camp Structured Mentorship Program organized by A New Thing International Foundation. The initiative provided young Nigerians with training in frontend and backend development, product management, application development and social-media marketing.[2]

Salam mentored the frontend-development track. His responsibilities included leading participants through practical projects, explaining problem-solving methods and helping learners translate introductory knowledge into working products. He reported that participants progressed from beginners into more confident builders, with some going on to launch projects or obtain technology roles.[2]

A New Thing International Foundation subsequently named him its Star Mentor of the Month. The recognition cited his dedication, consistency and hands-on work with learners. Mentorship has remained part of Salam’s stated long-term purpose alongside company-building: he has said that he intends to continue supporting the development of African technology talent.[1][2]

Technical writing

Salam publishes technical material about artificial intelligence, software-as-a-service products and product development. On January 23, 2025, he published “Building a RAG Chat Bot for Market-Validated Business Ideas: A Step-by-Step Guide.”[1]

The project addressed the difficulty founders face when attempting to distinguish plausible business ideas from ideas supported by actual market activity. Salam built a retrieval-augmented generation chatbot that uses information from Flippa, an online marketplace for digital businesses. The system retrieves relevant marketplace records and uses them to produce answers grounded in examples of businesses with demonstrated sales or revenue histories.[1]

The tutorial reflects a recurring theme in Salam’s work: combining AI with external information and a practical interface to reduce time-consuming research. Rather than presenting the chatbot as an autonomous business strategist, he designed it as a tool to help people investigate possibilities using market evidence.

Relocation to the United Kingdom

Around 2023, Salam relocated from Nigeria to the United Kingdom. He described the move as an effort to gain access to international opportunities and interact more directly with the global technology sector. He has continued to acknowledge Nigeria as the foundation of his professional development rather than presenting the relocation as a rejection of the country.[2]

In the United Kingdom, Salam attended conferences, connected with technology leaders and contributed to companies developing corporate e-learning platforms. The move also placed Imaiger within the British startup ecosystem, where it participated in startup programs and received its Midlands Enterprise Award.[2][3]

One of the principal difficulties Salam has identified in building Imaiger is access to talent. AI product development requires a mixture of software, design, marketing and domain expertise, and assembling the right team can be difficult in a rapidly changing field. His response has been to combine his own technical and marketing abilities, taking responsibility for multiple functions while engaging specialists for needs that require narrower expertise.[2]

Salam’s stated ambitions include developing Imaiger into a widely recognized generative-AI platform for content creation in the United Kingdom and internationally. Alongside that commercial objective, he has continued to describe product-building, practical problem-solving and mentorship of African technologists as central elements of his career.[2]
